Hyatt House was launched in 2012 as an extended-stay hotel brand under the Hyatt Hotels Corporation umbrella.

The brand’s latest outpost in Jersey City hardly spares the luxurious lashings. The cause is helped considerably by the lofty grand 10-storey setting of a former bank building built in 1920 and kitted out with imposing Ionic black marble columns, 12ft-high bronze doors, Portoro marble walls and travertine floors, all of which have survived the renovations.

Besides furnishing the lower levels with mahogany millwork, silk upholstered walls and brass lights, Manhattan-based studio Stonehill Taylor have swathed the 258 apartment-style rooms, which include kitchens, in grey shades, with deep-seated sofas, glass barn doors, and customised art depicting New York’s skyscrapers. Though, for our money, the views of the actual city through the floor-to-ceiling windows are considerably more compelling, especially at night.
