Converted from the former abandoned Salvation Army Building, the Asbury is a 100-roomboutique hotel located just steps from the ocean in the iconic Asbury Park beach town on the New Jersey Shore. Originally opened in 1956 and abandoned in the mid-2000s, the neglected building underwent a transformation that included new construction and a gut renovation of the original red brick structure. Stonehill Taylor removed the second floor creating a double-height lobby and bar, blending the historic feel of the original building with a modern aesthetic. Two contemporary metal and glass greenhouses were added to the front of the building, housing a rec room lounge and the hotel’s 4,800 SF of flexible indoor and outdoor event space. A tower was added to the center of the building to provide express elevator access to the hotel’s two rooftop venues, The Baronet, an outdoor movie venue, and Salvation, a rooftop bar. The renovation also included adding a lively pool area in addition to cabanas created from industrial scaffolding and a Beer garden with communal picnic tables and food truck offerings.
