Stonehill Taylor led the design team on the adaptive reuse of this1902 French Beaux Arts office building into a boutique hotel. The firm developed a new storefront system inspired by the original1902 design, to give a coherent street presence to the building and restore its original elegance. The new design utilizes large panes of uninterrupted glass, with a clerestory of handmade leaded glass of varying hues.
For interiors, Stonehill Taylor collaborated with Décoration Jacques Garcia in the renovation of the 130,000 SF property, which includes 160 guestrooms and 11 suites. Each suite has an open loft-like feel equipped with wooden floors, high ceilings and expansive windows, allowing an abundance of natural light into each space with views of the Empire State Building. The NoMad also features a fine dining restaurant and bar with a skylight-covered atrium as well as the now iconic Library, an intimate lounge space for hotel guests. The Penthouse level houses an event space and outdoor rooftop garden in addition to one of the most striking historic architectural details of the main building, the cupola, which now acts as a small private dining room.
Located in the Madison Square Park Historic District, and eligible for State Historic Preservation Tax Credits, the NoMad is a historic beauty and has earned LEED Gold Certification.
