For the new exterior extension for the Vestry, a Michelin-star restaurant in the heart of SoHo, Stonehill Taylor designed an exterior space that visually and cohesively connects to the restaurant’s interior. In addition to continuing the blue and copper color scheme found at the interior bar, the design also incorporates Vestry’s Asian-inspired cuisine by showcasing the simple yet sophisticated elements of Asian designs into the kiosk. The bold graphic paint lines used throughout are reflective of patterns found within Japanese wood joinery and result in a striking display. A lighting installation on the front façade is inspired by illuminating hanging lanterns, featuring fixtures framed by curved fins that are a nod to the beauty of vernacular architecture in Eastern Asia. Equipped for all four seasons, the kiosk features materials to keep rain and snow out, and drapery to control the wind from coming into the outdoor space.
