Radio Tower & Hotel

Executive Architect

Stonehill Taylor collaborated with MVRDV on a new 80,500 sf, 212 room hotel within an L-shaped mid-rise structure connected to a 150,000 SF commercial office building with shared site amenities. A thru block corner lock, the site overlooks Highbridge Park. The building is set back from Amsterdam Avenue to provide landscaped hotel arrival which flows into the 9,000 SF central courtyard.

Street level retail and a 12th floor event space with outdoor terrace provide community interaction. Back of house and building service spaces are in the 30,000 SF cellar level and a 25,000 SF sub-cellar level provides for 178 parking spaces on stackers. The building enclosure is a composition of stacked masonry boxes with punched windows scaled to respond to the existing neighborhood content. The building massing rises from 180th street toward 181 ST to leverage open views toward lower Manhattan and Queens while providing a landmark gateway at the Washington Bridge connection to the Bronx.
