Architecture
For Firmdale Hotels’ second New York property, Stonehill Taylor designed a new, 97,000 square foot building in Midtown Manhattan featuring interiors by Firmdale co-owner and visionary designer, Kit Kemp. In keeping with the surrounding architecture of the neighborhood, the structure has an elegant limestone façade, however the building’s distinctive form shaped by extensive balconies broadcasting the hotel as a destination of which to take note. Several suite balconies and terraces lend the 18-story building a distinctive shape that gradually scales back as the building rises. With over 20,000 sf of amenity spaces, the program includes the Drawing Room, The Orangery, and a Dolby-certified theater and function space. To accommodate the expansive public spaces, three floors of below ground programming were created, making the site one of the deepest excavations in Midtown Manhattan.
