The TWA Hotel brings new life to Eero Saarinen’s iconic TWA Flight Center at New York’s JFK Airport. The original Flight Center houses the hotel’s main lobby and amenities including reception, a coffee bar, a fully refurbished Sunken Lounge, state-of-the-art gym, and numerous restaurants. Set back on either side of the building are two newly built wings for the 512 guestrooms and suites. Inspired by the year 1962 (when the Flight Center originally opened) and by Saarinen and his contemporaries, the hotel blends Midcentury Modern design with the contemporary guest experience. In the guestrooms, sixties-inspired elements include select Saarinen-designed Knoll furnishings, a martini bar, vintage rotary phone and gleaming terrazzo tiles in the bathroom with Hollywood-style vanities. In many of the rooms, beds are positioned toward the windows to let guests enjoy the exciting rhythm of the runway or the glory of Saarinen’s TWA Flight Center. Stonehill Taylor also adopted the vintage Lockheed Constellation “Connie” L-1649A Starliner into a glamorous cocktail lounge for the enjoyment of hotel guests, featuring refurbished vintage airplane seats, comfortable banquette seating, and a “reveal” moment, where guests can see the plane’s original interior Clframe encased in glass.
